A forthcoming book by Phil BeLight
Conformity has become so common that we've mistaken it for health.
An examination of neurotypicality as the baseline for how we pathologize difference, enforce norms, and call it normal. This book isn't just about neurology. It's about every “typical” we've been conditioned to accept.

HOW “TYPICAL” BECAME THE STANDARD—AND WHY EVERY CONSTRUCT OF NORM IS A DISEASE WE'VE NORMALIZED.

About the Book
This is not simply a book about ADHD, autism, or neurodivergence. Neurotypicality is the starting point because it gives us a clean example of what happens when a culture takes the most common pattern, names it the baseline, and begins treating deviation from it as disorder.
From there, the book expands the question. What other versions of “typical” have we inherited without examining them? Typical masculinity. Typical femininity. Typical productivity. Typical intelligence. Typical relationships. Typical careers. Typical families. Typical success. Typical morality. Typical adulthood. Typical ways to communicate, grieve, learn, work, worship, love, and belong.
The argument is not that difference is automatically healthy or that every norm is malicious. The argument is that norms become dangerous when they disappear into the background and begin presenting themselves as nature. Once a construct becomes invisible, conformity starts masquerading as health and deviation starts masquerading as disease.
Part memoir, part philosophy, part psychology, part sociology, part cultural criticism, and part transcribed audio journal, the book uses neurotypicality as a doorway into a larger examination of how societies manufacture normality, reward compliance, pathologize difference, and teach people to abandon themselves in exchange for belonging.
Why preorder?
Your preorder funds the independent production of this book outside of traditional publishing, outside of gatekeepers, and without compromising the message to make it more comfortable or conventional.
You're not just buying a book. You're helping build a public conversation around the question of who gets to define “normal,” why those definitions become invisible, and what becomes possible when we interrogate them.
Founding Readers will be inside the process as the manuscript evolves.

This book questions ideas many people consider self-evident: psychology, diagnosis, education, productivity, capitalism, gender, relationships, adulthood, success, identity, morality, and normality itself. You may strongly disagree with portions of it. That is not a problem. The point is to make the invisible assumptions visible enough to examine.
Thank You
Ideas only become dangerous when nobody is willing to examine the assumptions underneath them.
